Radio
I like radio, and I’m good at it. I’m not being immodest – it’s just that the more you do, the better you get at it, and I’ve done loads. I know how many words make 30 seconds, and how to get the most out of a voiceover (or actor, as some of them prefer to be known). That’s because I usually cast, produce and direct my own scripts. And that, in local radio terminology, is poptastic.
Matt Lucas and David Walliams, before they became national treasures. And unaffordable.
This one won Gold at the Roses. To make it, I left the studio and put an actor and a mic inside a car. There's no additional mixing, by the way.
This commercial for a charity campaigning against the death penalty in the U.S. was voiced by actor Kerry Shale, who said reading the script gave him goosepimples.
Veteran smoothies Leslie Phillips and Bill Franklyn play a couple of wolves. Some things only work on radio.
Another star voice, this time the inimitable Ricky Tomlinson. One of a campaign.
I got Johnny Vegas to do a short campaign for Yaris. He plays the put-upon boyfriend of heartless petrol-head Sarah Alexander.
For the Herald Newspaper Group. I've covered the Scottish Referendum and the General Election in radio ads, but this one is for a new pro-Indy tabloid.
